This question was asked by D.T. on facebook in a group I'm in. This is my answer:
I've never been a religious person, even now I remain agnostic. But after dying and coming back, I was shown what I believe was the answer to the question: "what happens to us when we die?" And after what I saw, and felt, I was not impressed. During my time, wherever I was, I had no recollection of my current life and no sense of feeling or consciousness so to speak. It was as if I was a soul and nothing more just floating along a blackened abyss. It was peaceful at the time, but now I view it as terrifying. I didn't like that concept very much. I always envisioned a sort of afterlife, not an abyss. So in this series I gave my characters an afterlife. And the choice of one is purely up to them and what they believe personally. I may put them through hell occasionally but that's just a part of life. Take the good with the bad. And it's what I imagine would happen if hauntings and the afterlife were to ever be true.
